District 9 Councilwoman’s Statement on Arena Vote

SAN ANTONIO (August 17, 2026) — Councilwoman Misty Spears issued the following statement regarding the City Council vote on the proposed Spurs arena and surrounding development district:
“The City, County and Spurs entered this process together,” Spears said. “The term sheet established a framework involving all three partners. While it is not the final contract, entering into that agreement in good faith matters.”
Spears emphasized that the County’s election was part of that larger process.
“The County moved forward based on the framework we established. The Spurs moved forward. And most importantly, the voters acted,” Spears said. “They heard the arguments for and against this project and made their decision.”
Spears said questioning the outcome because some disagree with it risks dismissing the voters who participated.

NEISD Board votes to open District Boundaries

During the April 13 Regular Board of Trustees meeting, North East ISD Trustees voted in favor of opening our District boundaries to allow any students living in San Antonio and surrounding areas to enroll in NEISD for the 2026-2027 school year.
District 9 Traffic & Mobility Improvements - Stone Oak Parkway, Hardy Oak, Evans Road

The Evans Road portion of the project will begin March 23,2026 and run through late July 2026.
Construction and lane closures could impact traffic patterns and cause delays.

Improvements are part of the 2022 Bond Project.
The City of San Antonio will be hosting a Public Meeting for the D9 Traffic and Mobility (Stone Oak) Project on March 26th, 2026 at 6pm. It will be held at the Community Christ Church located at 1300 Evans Road, San Antonio, TX 78258.
Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) at the intersection of Blanco Road and Loop 1604

Because the Loop 1604 and Blanco Road intersection is one of the most heavily traveled areas in north San Antonio, the DDI design will help improve mobility and safety in the corridor.
As part of the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project, TxDOT will soon implement a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) at the intersection of Blanco Road and Loop 1604. This innovative intersection design shifts traffic briefly to the left side of the roadway as drivers travel through the interchange, allowing vehicles to make free-flowing left turns without crossing opposing traffic.
Because the Loop 1604 and Blanco Road intersection is one of the most heavily traveled areas in north San Antonio, the DDI design will help improve mobility and safety in the corridor.
